Thank you for considering us for your family portrait session!!
Family portrait sessions are a fun way to create memories for your family generations. You’d be getting everything from group photos to couples within the family and a couple of solo portraits of everyone! Yes! Even the family dog is included in the session. Our sessions are about fun and laughter so we love to have sessions with the family on a picnic, safari, barbecue or a Sunday afternoon get-together.
Where will we do our family portrait session?
We are all about creating sessions that are meaningful and unique to all families. We’ve done everything from shooting in a family home, in the park, on a picnic site or on a safari. We are happy to recommend a few locations that we know but always love to work with our clients’ ideas on what is special to them.
How long is a family shoot?
Usually we allocate 3 hours photography time. This is to allow for outfit changes, the variety of portraits from group to solo portraits and also for the family to have fun as well. It’s a great way to capture candid moments of the kids playing or the sisters enjoying a glass of wine.
What do we wear?
We recommend for 2-3 outfit changes for the shoot. In terms of colours and patterns, let's consider staying away from the cliche white shirt and blue jeans (unless everyone is taking a photo in those as part of a team)
Co-ordinate colours - Your colours should complement one another without necessarily being too matched! The colours you choose do not matter as much as staying away from clashing patterns. One of the things we have seen that works well is to start with something a bit more formal then switch to something more casual, or vice versa.
What do we bring to the shoot?
Another fun idea is to include items in your family portrait session that are important to you or that you can have fun with. For example:
- Picnic snacks, or food
- If you have a motorcycle, family car, bikes, bring them!
- Instruments to play
- Special bottle of wine of champaign
- If you have a cute dog, bring it. If you have an ugly dog, leave it at home...haha, just kidding!
