Engagement Faqs

Do we really need an engagement session?

Yes! Yes! Yes! we always insist on an engagement shoot because not only do we get to know one another better, but it helps you to feel more comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding day!(Some couples have actually never been shot together professionally before!) It’s also a great chance for the couple to use the photos for their ‘save the date’ or invites.

Where will we do our engagement photos?

We are all about creating sessions that are meaningful and unique to all our couples. We’ve done everything from shooting with horses and in a barn, cycling in Karura, a forest with giraffes and buffalos close by, massive landscape with huge windmills in the back, a lake side and ocean cliff all the way to having an intimate home session with our clients. We are happy to recommend a few locations that we know but always love to work with our clients’ ideas on what is special to them

How long is an engagement shoot?

Usually we allocate 2-3 hours photography time. This is to allow for outfit changes, and mapping out the location sites and perfect light for the sessions. We advice for working with golden hour sun, either early in the morning or towards sunsets.

What do we wear?

We recommend for a couple to bring 2-3 outfit changes for the shoot. Among the outfit choices, we request for a bride to bring a plain white beautiful outfit! (You are taking photos for your wedding right?! Why not start looking like a bride from your engagement shoot?!!) In terms of colours and patterns, let’s consider staying away from the cliché white shirt and blue jeans. Co-ordinate colours. Your colours should complement one another without necessarily being too match!

The colours you choose do not matter as much as staying away from clashing patterns. One of the things we have seen that works well is to start with something a bit more formal and switch to something more casual, or vice versa.

We will also usually spend an hour or two walking around, so make sure to bring walking shoes.

What do we bring to the shoot?

Another fun idea  is to include items in your engagement session that are important to you or that you can have fun with. For example,

  • If you have a motorcycle, a cool car or bike, bring it.
  • A ‘thank you card’ or ’save the date’ sign
  • Instruments to play
  • Special bottle of wine of champaign
  • If you have a cute dog, bring it. If you have an ugly dog, leave it at home…haha, just kidding!

Do we need to wear make up and do hair?

Of course! Fake eyelashes are your best friend! They make an awesome impression in photos  and are a great way to add to the flair!

Go all out in throwing some head pieces that compliment your outfits! Bring out the hats and sunglasses too for the fun photos.

And, as always rules are meant to be broken! If you are on the fence about an outfit of prop, Bring it along or pop the question beforehand.

Let us know if you have any questions. 🙂

Thanks!
